Orlando

Florida’s quite possibly the ultimate family-friendly destination. With more theme parks than you can count on the fingers of both hands, kids of all ages will be happy as they explore not just Disney and Universal’s offerings but old timers like Gatorland and newcomers such as Legoland. Its hot and sunny climate make Orlando the perfect place for splashing around in the pool and with a wide range of family-friendly dining options it doesn’t get much better than this.

Barcelona

If it’s a city break you’re after then Spain’s second city takes a lot of beating. Football mad youngsters (and their parents) will love a tour of Camp Nou, home to Barcelona FC and the third largest stadium in the world. The city’s quirky architecture courtesy of Antoni Gaudi gives the place a fairytale appearance. When you’re done with sightseeing, there’s almost five kilometres of beaches right in the city and Port Aventura theme park is just an hour down the coast.

The other-worldly scenery of this the most distinctive of the Canaries is sure to capture the family’s imagination. The lunar landscape of this volcanic island is full of unusual attractions, including riding camels near the volcanic cones of Timanfaya National Park or the myriad caves and caverns just begging to be explored. Factor in a decent scattering of beaches, hot sunny weather and family-friendly restaurants and you can see why we’d recommend it for families.
